Peer Blog Assessment

Group 13P1-01

Some really good blogs, involving Influencial videos, ideas, test shots, location recce, planning of story, characters, costumes and so on. There is already a lot of good planning, which will help them through the filming/editing stages and time will not be wasted. All of the blogs are of good length and reasonably easy to understand and look back on. They have shared lots of examples of other music videos, so that anyone who reads the blog can understand their planning and ideas in a visual context and what they want it to look like. They have used a storyboard animated GIF which I think is pretty useful and visual. They have included an auteur study with examples and explaining the conventions of the music video. Test shots are shown on their blog which is good to show their style of filming they are going to create with. Location ideas are also shown, although no explanation on what their going to make out of the location and what they're hoping to achieve with the location. The blog so far seems to be good, perhaps just a few more explanations on pictures and videos shown.

Goodwins Analysis Of a Real Music Video pt.2

Katy Perry - Last Friday Night

The genre of Katy Perry's music video; Last Friday Night is pop. This is the genre that is seen throughout the majority of her music. This genre often has characteristics such as events that are relatable to everyday life and character behaviors which are often seen within communities. The video is set in a big house and there is a stereotypical American mainstream house party. In films you often see the different group that are thought to be around in current time such as the geeks and jok's. These groups are shown in the video and this means that people will see this and relate it to films they have seen and conventions that are allocated to certain characteristics.

There is a narrative that illustrates and demonstrates the meaning of the song's lyrics. There is a narrative used in the music video that goes with the song and is relatable by the majority of the public viewing the video. The music video is about a party and the aftermath of the party and the behaviors of different characters in the music video that are relatable to everyday life such as parties and drinking.

The music fits with the atmosphere of the video because there is a house party and the music has an upbeat vibe with many of the characters dancing and having a good time. There is a part in the video where there is a saxophone being played and this fits with the video because in the video you can see this is happening at the party and the people are watching it and enjoying listening to the music.

There are allot of close up's of the artist throughout the video. In the video Katy is playing a geeky character which means that she isn't creating a recognizable style because she wouldn't normally dress and behave like she does in the video. Even though this is true she still creates an image for herself because she is going against the typical performance of having closeups showing the artist as they will be displayed across the majority of there songs.

There isn't really any reference to notion of looking. instead the video features the camera's viewing the hole party almost as a spectator to see the events unfold. This creates a feeling of being a person at the party but not getting involved instead you see the geeky character changing alot and letting lose and having a really good time.

There is intertextual reference to Rebeca Black because she is featured in the video with Katy Perry and the song is about Friday which is also the theme in one of Rebeca Black's famous videos.

13P1-05 Peer Assessment

Coverage of blog post list:

Overall, the coverage of the blog post list is thorough and the blogs are detailed, they have pre planned their music video including camera shots and editing, in addition to this they have included their own preliminary test footage/ideas and it has been made to a good standard.

Quality of blog posts:

The groups blog posts are highly detailed however not overly stretched out, and portray the necessary information to the reader, the images and media included in their blog has been suitably captioned and explained and this is prominent and have used another bands work/camera work as inspiration within their own work.

Advice and guidance:

Overall we think the ideas are good, and well explained in their blogs, however we feel they would benefit from including videos which provided inspiration from other bands in the same genre, this would allow them to see other conventions of their genre and provide possible ideas for their final product.
